Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics; Language Acquisition

Call Deadline: 22-Jan-2018

Meeting Description:

The conference Echanger pour apprendre en ligne (EPAL), organized by the
University of Grenoble-Alpes (Lidilem), will hold its sixth edition on June 7,
8 and 9, 2018. The objective of EPAL is to question, in a systemic and
multidisciplinary manner (educational sciences, information and communication
sciences, linguistics, SLA, psychology, sociology, computer science), the
relationship between online or hybrid learning, online verbal interactions
that are generated within such environments and the tools that instrument such
interactions.

The 2018 edition of EPAL will focus particularly on user pathways. Depending
on the environment they function in, users often have the choice between
collective or individual learning methods, between formal or informal
practices, between the use of “classic” platforms (Moodle, Claroline) or
“tailor-made” personal learning environments. Their choices may depend on the
degree of their appropriation of digital tools and of their digital literacy.
And also, of course, on the degree of learner autonomy that they have
developed.

Call for Papers:

Papers will specifically address one or more of the themes detailed in the
call for papers using empirical data collected in the context of field
experiments.

Submissions

The official languages for the conference are French and English.

Proposals for papers (extract and bibliography) should be between 5000 and
6000 characters long, including spaces, and address one or more of the themes
described in the call for papers (main theme to be indicated in the
submission). Submissions must include : a title, the surnames and given names
of the author(s), the authors’ affiliations, up to five keywords, and key
references. Abstracts should be submitted at
https://epal-2018.sciencesconf.org/user/submit . Submitting proposals in the
on-line submission module follows three steps:

- In the first form, fill out the fields for title, abstract (including a
reference list), theme(s), language (English or French) and keywords. Please
remove any information that could reveal the identity of the authour(s)
- Indicate the name(s) of the author(s) and their affiliation(s)
- Check the information and confirm

The Advisory Panel will evaluate proposals with respect to the following
criteria:

- Relevance of the paper to one of the four themes;
- Interest of the research object and objectives;
- Clarity of the methodology and relevance of the theoretical framework;
- Presence of theoretical or empirical results;
- Quality of the writing

As for previous editions of EPAL, participants will be able to submit their
paper for publication either in a journal (possible partner journals have been
contacted) or in the online conference proceedings. Information about partner
journals will be published soon on the conference website.
