Description:

A full professorship (W 3) for Translation Studies is to be occupied at the
next possible date at the Faculty of Modern Languages at the Heidelberg
University.

The School of Translation and Interpreting at the University of Heidelberg
invites applications for the post of professor of translation (technology).
The incumbent will be requested to participate in research, teaching and
examinations in the field of translation technology and/or
translation-relevant language technology with a focus on the English language
(other focus languages expressly welcomed). Most of the teaching will be
required for the courses BA Translation, BA Translation Studies for
Information Technologies and MA Translation. 

Other duties include the establishment at the School of a cross-language
research and teaching sector in the fields referred to above, supervision of
young academics, and appropriate participation in administrative matters. 

Applicants should have a track record of empirical research on machine-aided
translation and other sectors of translation technology. In addition, they
should have experience with forward-looking and innovative kinds of
translation (media translation, software localization, etc.) or be prepared to
acquire the expertise required to participate in teaching and research in
those areas. Experience in conducting major research projects, success in
securing external funding, and a record of participation in university
administration will be advantageous.

Suitable candidates will be university graduates with an above-average PhD and
(in accordance with Article 47, Paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the
state of Baden-Württemberg) a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior
professorship or comparable qualification.

The university aims to increase the number of women in areas in which they
have been underrepresented in until now. Qualified female academics are
especially invited to apply. Preference will be given to disabled applicants
who are otherwise equally qualified for the position.
