Meeting Description:

Envisioning the Future in Academic and Professional Languages: Emerging Trends
in Teaching and Research

20 and 21 June 2019
Instituto Cultura y Sociedad, Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona, Spain

This conference is aimed at those who are interested in all aspects of
research and applications of languages for specific purposes and professional
discourses. It is the 18th Annual Conference organised under the auspices of
the Asociación Europea de Lenguas para Fines Específicos (AELFE).

Call for Papers:

The pressures of globalization mean that the need for high level language
competences is clearly greater than ever before. But paradoxically, the
current panorama in European Higher Education poses many challenges to
professionals who teach and research in the area of academic and professional
languages.

The rise of English Medium Instruction has questioned the role of those who
teach English for specific and academic purposes. At the same time, there is
now an excellent opportunity to move away from low-level ESP to teaching
professional communication competences - which offers an excellent occasion
for ESP specialists to develop new areas of expertise.

For other languages (Spanish, Basque, German, French, etc.), the spread of
exchange programs, the creation of trilingual degrees, and the EU’s 2 + 1
policy define a landscape with ample opportunities for the expansion of
language teaching and research. AELFE 2019 is intended as a forum to bring
together researchers, academics and language professionals from Europe and
beyond who are concerned with these opportunities and threats.

This conference is aimed at those who are interested in all aspects of
research and applications of languages for specific purposes and professional
discourses. Selected papers from the conference will appear in a reputed
academic journal and in a special volume of peer-reviewed selected
presentations published by the Universidad de Navarra.

Submission of Proposals:
Proposals should be 300 words in length, and may be submitted to aelfe at unav.es
before 10 March 2019.
