Description:

The Philological Faculty of the University of Freiburg invites applications
for a Full Professorship (W3) for General Linguistics in the Department of
Linguistics, to be filled as soon as possible.

The research focus of this professorship is on general linguistics. Applicants
are expected to have a strong research record in one or more of the following
areas: 
- Language typology and universals research, 
- Language contact, 
- Language change, 
- Anthropological linguistics, 
- Areal linguistics. 

We expect thematic, methodological and theoretical compatibility with
linguistic and language-related research carried out in other departments of
the University of Freiburg. Complementary expertise in non-European languages
is required. The successful applicant will share responsibility for the Master
programme in Linguistics and is expected to contribute to relevant linguistic
modules in other BA and MA programmes. A good track record in acquiring
third-party funding, expertise in collaborative research as well as
participation and leadership in future applications for larger research
centres are essential.

Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an
outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial
achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of
a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.
