Job Title: Adjective Semantics and Pragmatics
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Pragmatics; Semantics

Description:

The Leibniz-Center General Linguistics (ZAS, www.leibniz-zas.de) invites
applications for a half-time early-career post-doctoral research position on
the semantics and pragmatics of adjectives with a starting date between August
and December 2018. The appointment is for a period of one year.

The ZAS is a research institute in the Leibniz Association. Its four main
divisions currently focus on the general research program 'Embedding, linkage
and constituent boundaries in speech, grammar and discourse'. The opening is
in area IV "Semantics and Pragmatics". Currently about 20 researchers work in
the research group. The ZAS offers in-house experimental facilities for
acoustic phonetics, motion capture, eye-tracking, and uses the software R for
data analysis.

The duties of the position are primarily research oriented which includes some
administration. The position is remunerated according to E13 of the German
TVOeD pay-scale at 50% of full-time. Limited support for conference travel,
experimental work and/or linguistic fieldwork is available. In case the
position was to be combined with another part-time position, candidates should
specify how they will ensure an equitable division.

Applicants must have defended their Ph.D by the time of the appointment. The
Ph.D. completion should be in or after July 2017 (except for documented cases
of forced interruptions of research work, e.g. for family or medical reasons).
Applicants are expected to have a strong background in theoretical linguistics
(specifically semantics and pragmatics) and a proven research experience and
an active research agenda in the semantics and pragmatics of adjectives.

Applications must be submitted via electronic mail and include the following
four items, preferably all in one PDF:
- a letter of intent (one or two pages) specifying research experience and
plans;
- the curriculum vitae including a complete list of publications;
- electronic copies of up to three representative publications or thesis
chapters; and
- the names and email addresses of at least two scholars to be contacted for
letters of recommendation.
