Subject: 4th Workshop on Languages of the Volga-Kama Sprachbund

Full Title: 4th Workshop on Languages of the Volga-Kama Sprachbund

Date: 16-Nov-2018 - 18-Nov-2018
Location: Moscow, Russia
Contact Person: Alexey Kozlov
Meeting Email: volgakama.languages at yandex.ru

Linguistic Field(s): Semantics; Syntax

Language Family(ies): Altaic; Uralic

Call Deadline: 01-Jul-2018

Meeting Description:

The existence of strong areal connections between Finno-Ugric and Turkic
languages, usually described with the notion of Volga-Kama Sprachbund, has
been known for a long time. Still, the comparative-areal perspective is
exceptionally rewarding both for the Finno-Ugric and for the Turkic studies:
our languages are far more similar, than it seems at first sight. We have no
doubt that the collaboration of specialists of Volga-Kama languages will help
to bring forward subtle differences and similarities, which will be valuable
for descriptive and theoretical research in the domain of each particular
language.

Organizing committee:

Alexey Kozlov (Institute of Linguistics RAS, NRU HSE)
Maria Usacheva (Institute of Linguistics RAS)
Timofey Arkhangelskiy (University of Hamburg)

Invited Speakers:

Éva Dékány (Research Institute for Linguistics of the Hungarian Academy of
Sciences)
Marcel den Dikken (Research Institute for Linguistics of the Hungarian Academy
of Sciences)

typological research.
