Call Deadline: 10-Jul-2018

Meeting Description:

As Japanese language learning is changing rapidly with the development of new
technologies and changing interests of new generations, this symposium aims to
collect the opinions and experiences about the new needs and challenges to be
faced. Experts in various fields related to Japanese studies, including
Japanese linguistics, language education, society, history, literature, and
other related fields are invited to participate. Complementing the main track,
the symposium will also provide a session with an opportunity for young
researchers and students to express their opinions on the topic. We hope to
clarify future directions for Japanese studies taking into account what kinds
of profiles are required in today's society, how recent advances in technology
and social networks could be reflected in education, what students'
motivation, interests and preferences are and how these can be incorporated in
a study curriculum.

The symposium welcomes three invited speakers:

Prof. Kikuko NISHINA (Prof. Emerita of Tokyo Institute of Technology)
Reflections on Teaching Technical Japanese

Prof. Izumi SAITA (Tohoku University)
Japanese language learning through casual conversation

Prof. Sekiko SATO (Tohoku University)
Guiding methods for academic writing

The symposium is accompanied by the workshop Corpora and Japanese language
education by our special guests, prof. Yuriko SUNAKAWA (Prof. Emerita of
University of Tsukuba), prof. Sawako NEMOTO (Paris-South French-Japanese
Association), and prof. Akiko Kurosawa (Yamagata University). The workshop is
organized in Japanese - please refer to the Japanese version of the call for
details on the workshop and necessary preparation steps.

The symposium also provides a session for young researchers and students.
