Meeting Description:

The Language Education Institute at Seoul National University (Seoul, Korea)
will host a theme session on Multimodality, Viewpoint, and Conceptualization,
as part of the SNU Conference on International Conference on Linguistics. The
theme session will be held at Seoul National University on June 15-16, 2018.

The keynote speaker for the theme session:

Eve Sweetser (UC Berkeley)

The issues that the theme session is especially interested in will be: 

- Multimodal artefacts (ads, films, co-speech gestures, music, etc.)
- Meaning and viewpoint construction
- Cognitive modeling (metaphoric blends, framings, etc.)
- Discourse studies of multimodality and/or viewpoint
- Viewpoint shifts such as direct/ indirect/ free speech and thought
- Computational modeling of construal of multimodality
- Usage-based approaches to multimodality


2nd Call for Papers

Multimodality, Viewpoint, and Conceptualization (Extended deadline: March
12th, 2018)

We kindly wish to inform you that the deadline for abstract submissions has
been extended to March 12, 2018

Guidelines for abstract submission:

We welcome abstracts touching on any of the above-listed (or related) topics
for oral (25 minute talk and 10 minute discussion, 12 slots are available) or
poster presentations (10 minute talk and 5 minute discussion, 10 slots are
available). Please indicate your preference when submitting your abstract.

The length of each abstract should not exceed 500 words (less than 1 page, not
including references). Abstracts for theme session papers must be submitted
electronically to the following address 

 sicl-pragmatics at daum.net 

with having the author(s)’ information in a separate page including name,
affiliation, title of the presentation, email address, and preference for
oral/poster presentation. 

It should be submitted in the MS word format and in the pdf format, both of
which should be titled as [the initial of corresponding author’s first name +
his or her full last name_abs_MVC] (e.g., for Iksoo Kwon: IKwon_abs_MVC.doc,
IKwon_abs_MVC.pdf). If you need to use phonetic characters, please make sure
that they are displayed correctly. 

The deadline for abstract submission has been extended to 12 March 2018.
Notification of acceptance will be communicated by 23 March 2018.

Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously and therefore must exclude all
references to the author(s).
