Description:

The School of Humanities & Social Sciences (SHSS) at Nazarbayev University
invites applications for an Assistant Professor position with a specialization
in Linguistics. The position requires a Ph.D. in Linguistics, or a closely
related field. A successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate
through graduate courses in Semantics, Pragmatics, Translation Studies,
Language Acquisition, Anthropological Linguistics, Research Methods in
Linguistics. We seek a candidate with an exemplary and ongoing record of
research, demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching,
commitment to active involvement in the life of the Department and the School,
and a capability to advise undergraduate and graduate students in the track of
linguistics, and to mentor senior undergraduates in application to graduate
programs. An ideal candidate would also have experience in either corpus
linguistics, or instructional technology and computational linguistics. 

This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal, it carries a
2/2 teaching load. 

The Department of Languages, Linguistics and Literatures (LLL) at SHSS
currently has eleven full-time and 3 part-time faculty representing a variety
of disciplines in the domain of languages, linguistics and national
literatures. The LLL Department has one of the fastest growing major counts in
the School and is adding an array of literature, linguistics and language
course offerings in the 2018-2019 academic year. The LLL Department’s program
is also integrated into the graduate program in Eurasian Studies, an
interdisciplinary MA and PhD program, and as such an ideal candidate will be
expected to contribute to the Eurasian Studies both in terms of research and
teaching. 

The LLL Department is housed within the School of Humanities & Social Sciences
which offers six majors and has approximately 700 students. 

Nazarbayev University is a modern, English-language institution based on best
practices drawn from partner higher education institutions in the US, UK and
Singapore. The strategic partner for SHSS and the Department is the University
of Wisconsin-Madison. 

Nazarbayev University is located in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana.
