Description:

The Department of English seeks a tenure-track assistant professor of
Linguistics specializing in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) with a strong
linguistics background (syntax, morphology, phonology, and/or semantics).
Applicants studying any aspect of SLA are encouraged to apply; however, those
with research backgrounds in corpus linguistic or experimentally-informed
approaches are especially welcomed. The successful candidate should have an
active research agenda and the ability to teach undergraduate courses in the
department as well as linguistics and SLA theory and practice to future
teachers. Commitment to supporting the success of first-year,
first-generation, and underrepresented students is essential, and interest in
the indigenous languages of Northern California and other local languages
(Spanish, Hmong, and Punjabi) is desirable. CSU, Chico values faculty who are
competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and
committed to student success.
 
The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a PhD.
in Linguistics. Eligible candidates should be qualified to teach
undergraduate-level courses across a variety of different areas in the field.
Preferred qualifications also include training and experience in teaching
non-native students and interest in the linguistics of local languages.
Successful candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and
social justice as evidenced in their record of teaching, scholarship, and/or
service. The teaching load is three courses per semester for the first two
years; subsequently four courses each semester.
