Description:

The Department of Linguistics at Indiana University invites applications for a
one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in the area of Sociolinguistics
to begin August 1, 2018.  The successful applicant will be comfortable
teaching courses ranging from an introduction to language and identity for
undergraduate non-majors, undergraduate sociolinguistics, graduate
introduction to sociolinguistics, and sociolinguistic fieldwork at the
undergraduate level.  They may also have the opportunity to engage in student
mentoring, with a variety of students enrolled in one of IU's many language
and linguistics programs.  
 
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) by August 1,
2018 in Linguistics, or a related field with extensive experience in
variationist sociolinguistics.  Ideal candidates will have research and
teaching interests that align well with the department and the related
programs at IU.  Indiana University and the Department of Linguistics have a
tradition of diverse language and linguistics education, well-developed
connections with cognitive science, speech and hearing science, and computer
science, and the presence of Linguist List, among many other opportunities for
integration.
