Description:

The Department of Language and Literature at the Norwegian University of
Science and Technology invites applications from qualified individuals for a
full-time teaching position, or two half-time teaching positions, in English
Linguistics for the academic year 2018-2019, beginning in the autumn of 2018.

The position involves teaching and assessment within the field of
sociolinguistics, Global English, or translation studies. You will be
responsible for teaching classes at all levels within your field of
specialization, in addition to potentially contributing to introductory
classes in basic English linguistics and proficiency.

The Department of Language and Literature (ISL) is part of the Faculty of
Humanities, situated at Dragvoll campus in Trondheim. The Department has more
than 90 permanent academic staff and approximately 15 PhD candidates. The
department has a vibrant research environment and is responsible for several
large-scale research projects. Further information concerning the academic

Qualifications:

The appointed candidate(s) must:
- possess qualifications in Linguistics, English Language, or a related field,
at an MA level. PhD level is desirable but not a requirement.
- have expertise in one or more of the following areas: sociolinguistics,
Global English, translation studies. Preference will be given to candidates
who can teach courses in more than one of these areas
- possess relevant academic competence as well as experience in teaching and
examination at college or university level
- be able to teach advanced classes (at the undergraduate and masters level)
in his or her area of specialization
- be able to teach introductory classes in basic English linguistics and
proficiency.

Main tasks:

The appointed candidate(s) must:
- be prepared to teach and supervise in a number of courses at the 1000, 2000
and 3000 levels, including the 5-year MA teacher-training programme
- be prepared to teach in the English section’s online/distance learning
program Take Credit
- mark obligatory assignments and exams. Master’s thesis examination may also
be expected
- be prepared to perform other administrative and teaching related duties.

In the department’s assessment of candidates, the following skills will be
emphasized:
- teaching skills and experience and the ability to motivate students
- the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team
- suitability and motivation for the position
- strong written and oral skills in English

Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience of teaching at
a third-level academic environment where English is studied as a foreign
language in Norway.

Applicants who have been short-listed will be interviewed and will be invited
to demonstrate their pedagogical ability, usually by means of a trial lecture.
