Description:

The Department of Education wishes to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in
the field of applied linguistics/language education from 1st August 2018. The
Department is one of the six founding departments of the University of York
and has one of the largest graduate schools of education in the UK.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate whose research can
contribute to and enhance research activity in the Department’s Centre for
Research in Language Learning and Use (CReLLU). This post provides an exciting
opportunity for candidates with a track record of high quality teaching and a
commitment to excellence in teaching and supervision to contribute to the
Department’s undergraduate and graduate programmes.

As a Senior Lecturer, you will provide research leadership and build on your
extensive track record of teaching and learning in the Higher Education sector
at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Candidates must possess a PhD or equivalent experience in the field of applied
linguistics/language education with a developing track record of research
expertise in an area that will complement and enhance the Department’s
research strategy and goals. Experience of taking responsibility for teaching
and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level is essential, as is the
ability to supervise students at Masters and doctoral level.

Candidates applying for Senior Lecturer must additionally be able to
demonstrate a well-established reputation and academic leadership in research,
have a developing track record of high quality publications and of developing
research objectives, projects and funded research proposals and an extensive
track record of teaching and learning in the Higher Education sector or in a
demonstrably similar context.

We are interested in candidates with research interests in all domains of
applied linguistics relating to language learning and/or teaching, including
but not restricted to (in alphabetical order): assessment, cognitive
linguistics, corpus linguistics, individual differences, language education
policy, multilingualism, neurolinguistics, phonology, pragmatics,
psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics. The ability to contribute to departmental
teaching in other areas will be an advantage.

This is an open contract available at either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level
from 1st August 2018. Please indicate on your application the level of post
for which you wish to be considered. Salary will be in the range of £38,832 -
£47,722 per year for a Lecturer, or £49,149 - £56,950 per year for a Senior
Lecturer.
