Approaches''

Convenors: Anne Abeille, Jong-Bok Kim, Jonnna Nykiel
Date: June 28 (Thursday) 9:00 - 5:00
Venue: Kyung Hee University at Seoul, Korea

Invited Speakers:

The goal of this workshop is to have another open forum to discuss theoretical
as well as experimental investigations of elliptical phenomena (e.g, VP/NP
ellipsis, sluicing, fragment answers, (why-)stripping, gapping, swiping, and
so forth). Language comprehension uses relations between form and meaning, but
in elliptical constructions this mapping involves the linguistic and
non-linguistic context in a more complex way, challenging both linguistic and
psycholinguistic theories. There has been a vast amount of work on this topic,
but many issues remain open. The workshop invites contributions from
researchers who have been working on elliptical phenomena either from
theoretical perspectives or using experimental methods. Contributions
focusing on typological comparisons or based on corpus studies are also
welcomed.

Final Call for Papers:

We invite abstract submissions for 30-minute paper presentations (including
questions and discussion) as well as poster presentations. Abstracts should be
no longer than one page (including data and references). They should be
submitted as a PDF file only. The abstract document itself should be
anonymous, not hinting the authorship. Abstract submissions will be handled
via EasyABS at the following URL:
http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/silencekhu2018

Note that the workshop will be followed by the 2018 LSK (Linguistic Society of
Korea) Meeting. Abstracts for the general sessions of the LSK meeting need to
