(Subject Line) It's a Very close match in the Subfields Challenge!

Hello again linguists and supporters! As you know, every year during the Fund
Drive we run a friendly competition between linguists in different fields,
universities, and parts of the world. Show your support for the hard work we
do here at LL and participate in the fun!

Here's an update on the challenges standing!

Subfields Challenge:
Computational Linguistics has increased its lead with a total of $1575--can
anyone catch up?
Syntax is getting closer, with a total of $1285.
And finally Sociolinguistics, which surpassed Semantics last week, is giving
Syntax very little room, encroaching with a total of $1255! Can Socio win this
year?

University Challenge:
Stanford University's total donations of $1370 from 20 donors has so far kept
it in the lead--last year, Stanford had to surrender to University of
Washington, after a close competition. Will it happen again this year, or will
Stanford come out victorious?
University of Washington isn't handing it to them--with a total of $1255 from
14 donors.
Arizona State University remains in third with a total of $500 from 1 donor!

Region Challenge:
North America is determined to come out ahead, with a total of 96 donors!
Can Europe close the gap? With 40 donors, it looks like a stretch but it's far
from over!
Asia follows with 9 donors.

Country Challenge:
The US has established a comfortable lead--for the time being!--with 91 total
donors.
Germany comes in second with 13 donors.
Austria and Canada are tied for third with 5 donors each. Hurrah for French,
for Algonquin, for Bungee and Nuxalt!

As always, we're grateful for your support and participation. Without our
supporters from around the world, LL would not be able to remain in business,
doing the rewarding work of serving the worldwide linguistics community. For
all subfields, Universities, Regions, Countries, for understudied languages,
for up-and-coming students, linguistic representation in media, and the
important research all of you do--thanks.
