Meeting Description: 

The Section for Sign Linguistics, Faculty of Polish Studies, University of
Warsaw is very pleased to announce that it will host the SIGN9 conference, to
be held on 22-25 August 2018 at the University of Warsaw. Organized in a
number of countries all over the world, the SIGN conference has a long
tradition as an event dedicated to the issues of Deaf people, their languages
and culture.

About the conference

The SIGN conference has provided a platform for thought-provoking gatherings
for sharing research results and experience among sign-language scholars from
all over the world. It is the only conference in the world using only signed
languages, with all presentations delivered either in International Sign or
the sign language used in the hosting country. Presentations deal with issues
of deaf individuals, their culture and language.

Objectives of the SIGN conference include:

- Expanding the international network of linguists dealing with sign
linguistics and Deaf studies; fostering international cooperation,
- Providing a venue for international encounters between experienced scholars
and beginner researchers in the field of sign languages and Deaf studies
- Focusing on the topics related to the country hosting the conference
- Ensuring full participation for Deaf attendants
- Combining typically academic presentations with other kinds of creative
activities, such as workshops

To confirm participation, please register using the form available at
http://sign9.uw.edu.pl/en/sign9/rejestracja/. Registration will be open until
15 July 2018. Please note that registration will close on that day; there will
be no possibility of online registration thereafter and there will be no
on-site registration.
 
For attendants who pay the conference fee by 31 May 2018, an early-bird rate
is available. A discounted fee is available to university students and PhD
candidates on presenting a copy of a student’s ID card or other written
document confirming their status.
