Meeting Description:

The Institute for Linguistic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences
announces the First Conference on Uralic, Altaic and Paleo-Asiatic languages.
The Conference will take place at the Institute for Linguistic Studies  (St.
Petersburg, Tuchkov per., 9), on December 6-8, 2018. In 2018, the Conference
will be dedicated to the memory of Alexander Pavlovich Volodin (1935 - 2017). 

Within the framework of the conference, we plan to discuss the problems of
Uralic, Altaic and Paleo-Asiatic languages. Here is a tentative list of topics
that will be studied at the conference on the material of Uralic, Altaic and
Paleo-Asiatic languages:

1) Phonology, grammar and lexicon
2) Language contacts
3) Sociolinguistic and ethnolinguistic studies
4) Comparative and historical studies
5) Corpora studies

Subsequently, the Conference is scheduled to be held regularly every two
years.

Call for Papers:

The conference may include workshops. Proposals for workshops should be sent
to the following e-mail address: langrus.spb at gmail.com until July 15, 2018.
The proposal should contain an annotation of the workshop (up to 3600
characters) and a preliminary list of talks’ titles. The organizing committee
will notify on the acceptation / rejection of the thematic section before July
31, 2018.

Anonymous abstracts for participation in the general session or in workshops
should be sent to e-mail: langrus.spb at gmail.com until September 16, 2018. The
abstract should not exceed 3600 characters (with spaces), including examples,
diagrams, tables and the list of references. The abstract should be sent in
one of the following formats: .doc, .docx or .rtf. If non-standard fonts are
used, they should be attached to the letter; in this case abstracts should be
sent also in .pdf format. The letter should contain the information about the
author / authors: name, place of work / study, e-mail address; it should say
whether the presentation is planned at a workshop or at the general session.
Each participant may submit no more than two applications -- in this case one
of the two presentations should be made in co-authorship.
The Organizing Committee will select abstracts based on anonymous reviewing.
The notification of the acceptance / rejection will be sent to the authors no
later than October 1, 2018.

Time for presentations: 30 minutes (20 minutes talk + 10 minutes discussion).
Conference languages: Russian, English. There is no registration fee for
participation in the conference. Unfortunately, the organizing committee will
not be able to reimburse expenses for travel and accommodation. A collection
of abstracts will have been published by the beginning of the Conference.

Important Dates:

July 15, 2018 - Deadline for workshop proposals
July 31, 2018 - Notification of acceptance / rejection of applications for
workshop proposals
September 16, 2018 - Deadline for the submission of abstracts (both workshops
and general session)
October 1, 2018 - Notification of acceptance / rejection of abstracts
December 6-8, 2018 - the Conference
