Meeting Description:

The current international scientific conference “Variation across Languages
and their Varieties” devoted to Jonas Jablonskis will be held on 27–28
September 2018 at the Faculty of Philology of Vilnius University.

The main goal of the 25th international scientific conference “Variation
across Languages and their Varieties” is to bring together international
academic community interested in various aspects of variation in languages and
their varieties and provide the opportunity for scholars representing
different schools and approaches to exchange ideas, expertise and knowledge in
any area of variation.

Jonas Jablonskis's works are especially significant for the Lithuanian
language, as well as for the entire Lithuanian nation. Therefore, it is
symbolic that the latest conference named after this linguist celebrates the
25th anniversary in the year of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of
Lithuanian statehood.

Call for Papers:

Since Jonas Jablonskis's works cover almost all areas of the language, the
conference will focus on the problems of variation in old writings, dialects
and standard language, as well as will attempt at revealing cultural aspects
of different varieties. The conference will include four sections dealing with
variation issues on various levels:

- Standard language (phonetics, accentology, lexis, grammar, syntax,
stylistic, social variation, codification significance and variety of uses)
- Dialectology (variation of lexical units, grammatical forms or syntactic
structures in dialects)
- Ethnolinguistics (cultural aspects of variation)
- Texts of Old Languages (diachronic lexicology and lexicography, word usage,
variation and distribution in old writings)

Conference languages: English, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish and Russian.
Presentations: 20 minutes.

Abstracts:

- Anonymous abstracts should be sent to the conference organisers
(gintare.judzentyte at gmail.com) by July 1, 2018 (abstracts should not exceed
500 words).
- The abstracts will be reviewed by the scientific committee and the
notification will be given on 1 September, 2018.
