Meeting Description:

The Laboratoire de Linguistique de Nantes (LLING UMR 6310 CNRS/Université de
Nantes) is pleased to announce the workshop ''Multiple wh- constructions and
their kin'', to be held in Nantes, on September 17-18, 2018.

Wh-words appear in various constructions within and across languages (e.g.,
interrogatives, headed and free relative clauses, correlatives, clefts),
raising the question of how their denotation varies and relates across these
constructions. This workshop addresses this question by focusing on multiple
wh- constructions, containing two and more wh-phrases (e.g., interrogative
clauses, correlatives, modal existential constructions, free relative
clauses), or closely related wh-constructions (e.g. interrogative/relative
clauses involving quantifiers, constructions triggering pair-list readings
and/or functional readings).

Confirmed participants:

Adrian Braşoveanu (University of California Santa Cruz)
Ivano Caponigro (University of California San Diego)
Veneeta Dayal (Rutgers University)
Patrick Elliott (Leibniz-Zentrum Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft)
Anamaria Fălăuș (Laboratoire de Linguistique de Nantes - CNRS/Univ. Nantes)
Andreea Nicolae (Leibniz-Zentrum Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft)
Maribel Romero (Universität Konstanz)
Radek Šimík (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin)
Yimei Xiang (Harvard University)

Organization:

The workshop is co-organized by Anamaria Fălăuș and Ivano Caponigro and is
funded by the grant ''Logically speaking: language as an inferential system'',
Etoiles Montantes, Région des Pays de la Loire, France.

Program:

The workshop will include tutorials and research talks. A detailed program
will be announced in June.

Registration:

Everyone is welcome to attend, but for practical reasons, if you plan to come,
please send an e-mail to anamaria.falaus(at)univ-nantes.fr
