In reply to 29.2167:

This does not exactly address the question asked, but it is perhaps relevant:
The Italian clitic si is routinely labeled the reflexive of the third person.
Chapter One of my 2017 book The Substance and Value of Italian Si (Amsterdam:
John Benjamins), however, reports that only three percent of the tokens of si
in Lampedusa’s novel Il gattopardo are translated as reflexives in a published
translation into English. (The rest of the book is a linguistic analysis of
si, not a treatment of translation.)
