Description:

The Scientific Institute IRCCS ''E. Medea'' invites 1 fullyfunded 3years (36
months) PhD program in psycholinguistics starting September 2018.

ESR12 Project:
Computerized system for the screening of Specific learning and language
disorders within bilingual children. The ESR will be based at IRCCS
Scientific Institute “Eugenio Medea”, Associazione La Nostra Famiglia, Bosisio
Parini near Milan and will be enrolled in a PhD program at the University of
MilanoBicocca.

The candidate will be integrated as an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) within the
European ITN Marie Sklodowska Curie Innovative Training Networks on
Multilingualism (https://www.multilingualmind.eu/). ESRs are researchers in
the first 4 years of their research careers and have not been awarded a
doctoral degree.

Recruitment will be based on the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of
Researchers and will adhere to equal opportunities principles.

Background:
The number of bilingual children requiring attention for their poor
educational achievements is increasing; without a clear understanding of their
needs it is difficult to provide adequate services. Since clinicians may not
be able to examine children’s L1, a flexible response can be offered through
the use of computerized language and reading tests tailored on the specific
language, carried out in the children’s L2, L1 or both.

Main Objectives:
Based on the literature, define a set of language specific markers of SLI and
dyslexia in monolingual children speaking Italian, English, Polish, Mandarin,
Wenzhounese, German; Prepare computerized tests using the specific markers for
each language; Administer computerized tests to bilingual children with
typical and atypical development, analyse and revise; Design a subset of the
tests for an open source platform.

Planned secondments:
4 months at University of Tuebingen (D); 4 months at Royal Dutch Kentalis (NL)

Nationality:
ESRs can be of any nationality.

Transnational mobility:
The researcher must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the
country of the host organisation (Italy) for more than 12 months in the 3
years immediately prior to the start date.

Refugees:
Researchers with refugee status, as defined by the Geneva Convention, benefit
from a less restrictive mobility rule.

General selection criteria:
- A Master of Arts (MA) or a Masters of Science (MSc) or equivalent degree in
Linguistics, Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy or similar discipline that
provides the doctoral candidate with appropriate background for the MultiMind
project.
- A high mark in the Master programme and Master Thesis;
- Research experience beyond the Undergraduate and Master programmes.
- Research methods related to MultiMind.
- Publications.

Specific selection criteria (Project ESR12):
- General notions of Psychometrics and test theory.
- Familiarity with experimentbuilding programs, programming skills and basic
knowledge of computational concepts would be preferential criteria.

Salary:
The ESR will receive a Living Allowance (€3,110 per month multiplied by the
country correction coefficient which for Italy is 106,7%), Mobility Allowance
(€600 per month) (before taxes and all compulsory (employer /employee) social
security contributions). ESRs who have a family at the beginning of their
employment will also receive a Family Allowance (€500 per month).

To Apply:
Candidates should connect to the application link provided below and download
requested documents, then send the documents by email to
info at multilingualmind.eu stating that they wish to be considered for the
“MultiMind recruitment ESR12” no later than 12 noon of the day 26th June 2018.
They will be contacted for an interview over the internet.
