Description:

The Department of Education wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Language
Education. The Department is one of the six founding departments of the
University of York and has one of the largest graduate schools of education in
the UK. 

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate whose research can
contribute to and enhance research activity in the Department’s Centre for
Research in Language Learning and Use (CReLLU). The post provides an exciting
opportunity for candidates with a track record of high quality teaching and a
commitment to excellence in teaching and supervision to contribute to the
Department’s undergraduate and graduate programmes. The new Lecturer will be
responsible for the leadership and development of the highly successful MA in
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). 

The main responsibilities of the post include:
- Developing research objectives, projects and proposals and carrying out
individual or collaborative research projects
- Leading on and/or contributing to the production of research outputs and
research outcomes. 
- Designing, developing and delivering teaching across a wide range of modules
and/or within a particular programme or subject area 
- Programme leadership for the MA TESOL
- Undertake a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities
effectively

Candidates must possess a PhD or equivalent experience in the field of
Education or a related discipline, have a proven ability to contribute to high
level research and have research expertise in an area that will complement and
enhance the Department’s research strategy and goals. 
Experience of taking responsibility for teaching and learning at undergraduate
and postgraduate level and evidence of successful course planning, design and
delivery is essential, as is the ability to supervise students at Masters and
doctoral level. The ability to contribute to existing departmental teaching in
other areas is desirable. 

We are particularly interested in candidates with research interests related
to the broad area of TESOL. Example specialisms might include areas such as
testing/assessment, teacher cognition, teacher development and training,
computer assisted language learning, vocabulary/grammar learning and teaching,
programme evaluation, instructed second language acquisition, classroom
communication. 

This is an open-ended appointment available to start from 1st March 2019.
