Call Deadline: 31-Jan-2019

Meeting Description:

(Session of International Conference on Verbal Humor)

In the recent decades, the acquisition and development of humor have become a
focus of research in the field of psychology (cfr. Martin 2007; Lopez & Vaid
2017). Within this framework, verbal humor is addressed as a part of the
general competence, in a broad context of developmental, cognitive and
psychosocial behavior in different population groups. Such research
environment often hinders the adequate analysis of the verbal humor
idiosyncrasy, including its evolution and development (cfr. Ruiz Gurillo 2012,
2016a; Timofeeva 2016, 2017). Therefore, an approach to these issues from the
linguistics perspective is argued to be clearly relevant for what the data may
provide in order to complement psychological findings (cfr. Timofeeva Timofeev
2014; 2017). Furthermore, and considering the interdisciplinary nature of
humor, it is necessary to promote and strengthen a research area, which, from
a linguistics point of view, would address other related phenomena, such as
the metalinguistic development (cfr. Timofeeva Timofeev 2014; 2017), the
identity shaping (cfr. Ruiz Gurillo 2015; 2016b; Yus 2014; 2015) or
neuro-physio-psychological disorders (cfr. Forabosco 2007; Martin 2007), among
others.

Call for Papers:

This panel, thus, seeks to welcome contributions about the following general
issues:

- The development of children’s verbal humor
- Humor and linguistic disorders
- Psychosocial development and verbal humor
- Metalinguistic development and humor
