Alicante Journal of English Studies (Revista Alicantina de Estudios Ingleses)
is an internationally distributed and well-indexed journal on English Studies
published annually (since 1988) by the University of Alicante, Spain. It is
available both in paper and electronic formats. Previous issues of the journal
can be accessed at the Alicante Journal of English Studies web page at
<https://raei.ua.es/>

Alicante Journal of English Studies is currently preparing a Special Issue on
the Language of Sports and Adventure Tourism to appear at the end of 2019.

It invites contributions on a variety of aspects of the language of sports and
adventure tourism: lexis, semantics, stylistics, discourse analysis, language
contact, etc. Contributions should focus on the English language, either in
itself, related to, or in comparison or contrast with other language(s).

The notion of ''sports'' is here to be interpreted as activities in which
athletes, players or teams compete against each other, typically involving
physical effort. Examples include athletics, boxing, gymnastics, tennis and
wrestling, as well as basketball, football, floorball, ice hockey and
volleyball (but not billiards, darts, shooting, etc.). By ''adventure
tourism'' we understand outdoor activities relying on features of the natural
terrain, and generally requiring specialized equipment (cf. Buckley 2006).
Such activities are illustrated by rafting, kayaking, diving, surfing,
snowboarding, ice climbing, mountaineering, horse riding as well as various
aerial adventures.

In addition to scholarly articles, proposals for book reviews of recent
publications related to the field of sports and adventure tourism language are
also welcome.

Submissions will be submitted to a double-blind peer-reviewed panel.

Abstracts outlining problematization, methodology and potential conclusions
(approx. 400 words, not including bibliographical references) should be
submitted before December 31th, 2018 to balteiro at ua.es

Summary of relevant dates:
December 31, 2018: Deadline for submission of abstracts
January 15, 2019: Notification to authors
May 30, 2019: Deadline for submission of full papers
July 15, 2019: P2P reviews
>From September 1 to October 1, 2019: Deadline for submission of final revised
papers
>From October 1 to October 31, 2019: Editors working on the final version of
volume
