Description:

The Computational Linguistics Laboratory in the linguistics department at the
University of California Davis invites applications for a full-time
post-doctoral position in computational linguistics. The appointment is for
one year, renewable for a second year.

The position is funded through NSF grant #1840191. The project consists in
building an ontology for cybersecurity, harvesting and retrieving concepts
from online discussion boards, advisories, and program documentation. The
ontology will be deployed in a university OIT setting, to help secure the
scientific cyberinfrastructure.

The post-doctoral scholar will work within an interdisciplinary team of
software engineers, cybersecurity experts, and computational linguists.
Responsibilities of the position include (but are not limited to):
- Constructing, maintaining, and curating a corpus of public sources about
cybersecurity issues;
- Applying information retrieval and knowledge engineering tools to extract
information form sources;
- Building an ontology of concepts and relations from the extracted
information; developing an interface for querying and accessing the
information in the ontology.
In addition, the postdoc will assist with general research in the areas of the
grant, grant proposal preparation, writing papers and preparing conference
presentations, leading lab discussion meetings, training graduate students in
linguistics and computer science.

PhD in linguistics, computer science, or related discipline required. Degree
in hand at the time of appointment (applications from students close to
completing their degrees considered). Preferred familiarity with one or more
of the following: OWL programming language, ontology construction, natural
language processing, and information retrieval techniques. Required
application documents include a CV, an application letter, a Statement of
Contributions to Diversity, and letters of recommendation (1 to 3) to be
submitted to the application link provided below.

Apply by October 25th, 2018 to ensure full consideration by the committee.
Applications will continue to be accepted until June 30th, 2019, but those
received after the review date will only be considered if the position has not
yet been filled.
