Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: General Linguistics; Neurolinguistics; Psycholinguistics

Description:

The Center for Language Science (CLS) at The Pennsylvania State University
invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position. The CLS is home to a
cross-disciplinary research program led by faculty whose interests include
bilingual language processing, language acquisition in children and adults,
language contact, and aging, among other topics.

We welcome applications from candidates with preparation in any of the
disciplines that contribute to our program. The successful candidate will have
expertise in a research technique or analysis that would further enrich CLS
research (e.g., large-scale data analysis techniques, Bayesian data analysis,
computational modeling, neurocognitive techniques and analyses, statistical
learning techniques, new methodologies in research with young children, corpus
analysis methods, new field work techniques).

The Postdoctoral Scholar will conduct their own line of research with one or
two CLS faculty members but will also initiate collaborative research project
with other CLS faculty and will share their specific research expertise
through targeted workshops for the CLS community.

Questions about this position can be directed to members of the search
committee: John Lipski (jlipski at psu.edu), Janet van Hell (jgv3 at psu.edu),
Michele Diaz (mtd143 at psu.edu), Katharina Schuhmann (kxs811 at psu.edu), and Karen
Miller (kxm80 at psu.edu). Administrative questions can be directed to the Chair
of the search committee, Karen Miller, at kxm80 at psu.edu.

More information about the Center for Language Science (CLS) and faculty
research programs can be found at the department website provided above.

The appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal. The
start date can be as early as December 1, 2018. Salary is commensurate with
experience and qualifications. Interested candidates must apply online at the
application link provided below, and should upload a CV, sample publications,
and a statement of research interests and research expertise. This statement
should indicate two or more core faculty members as potential primary and
secondary mentors and should describe the candidate’s goals for research
during a postdoctoral position and how their specific research expertise would
enrich the CLS community. Additionally, applicants should arrange for three
letters of recommendation to be sent separately to Katy VanAmburg at
kjv12 at psu.edu.

Review of applications will begin October 20, 2018 and continue until the
position is filled. Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. by the time of
appointment.
