Meeting Description:

The symposium aims at bringing together scholars, practitioners and novice
researchers representing different areas of linguistics, literature and
culture for a discussion on the role of languages in international
communication in the contemporary world.


Call for Papers:

The Department of English Studies and the Centre for Applied Linguistics in
cooperation with the Department of Romance Studies at the Faculty of
Humanities of the University of Latvia are pleased to announce the 4th
International Symposium on Language for International Communication to be held
in Riga on April 11-12, 2019.
 
The symposium aims at bringing together scholars, practitioners and novice
researchers representing different areas of linguistics, literature and
culture for a discussion on the role of languages in international
communication in the contemporary world. 
 
The focus of the symposium is on semantics, pragmatics, text and corpus
linguistics, discourse analysis, language acquisition, lexicology,
lexicography, translation and interpretation, culture and literature studies. 
 
The working languages of the symposium are English, French and Spanish. 
 
The symposium will be held at the University of Latvia in Riga, Latvia.

Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously. The accepted abstracts will be
published online on the symposium website in a Book of Abstracts after the
symposium.

Symposium fee:

The symposium fee is €100.00. It covers – attendance at the symposium
sessions, symposium materials, the opening reception, coffee breaks and
publication of the paper.

Payment:

The symposium fee is payable by bank transfer by March 15, 2019. Details about
the payment and the deadline will be sent together with the notification of
acceptance.

Important dates:

- Submission of abstracts (online): January 15, 2019
- Notification of acceptance of the abstracts: February 15, 2019
- Submission of the manuscript electronically for review: June 20, 2019
- Registration opened from February 25, 2019 (see the registration form on the
symposium website for details). 
- Online registration closed on March 29, 2019
