Description:

Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Sociolinguistics

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures of Fordham University
invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor specializing in
sociolinguistics, to be based primarily at the university’s Rose Hill campus. 

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in hand by August 2019 and will
have preparation in foreign language teaching. In addition to English,
near-native fluency in at least one of the languages offered by the department
(Arabic, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian,
Spanish) is required. Candidates whose research touches upon language
variation and change among urban linguistic communities or minority language
communities are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate
will have a strong record of teaching of linguistics area courses, including
sociolinguistics. Responsibilities include teaching language and linguistics
courses, maintaining a productive research agenda, and actively participating
in undergraduate research mentorship.
