University or Organization: Université Paris Diderot
Department: Linguistics
Job Location: Paris, France
Web Address: http://www.linguist.univ-paris-diderot.fr/
Job Title: Assistant Professor Computational Linguistics
Job Rank: Assistant Professor; maître de Conférences

Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics

Description:

The Dpt of Linguistics at Université Paris Diderot (Paris 7) is opening a
position at the rank of Assistant Professor (MCF) in computational
linguistics, starting Fall 2019.

The Paris Diderot Computational Linguistics (CL) curriculum was the first of
its kind in France (first class in 1984), and has always been characterised by
the ambition to offer, in a linguistics department specialised in formal
linguistics, quality training in computer science, with requirements
comparable to those of scientific training. To support this multidisciplinary
ambition, the curriculum grounds its training both from linguistics and
computer science departments.

The curriculum includes a 3rd year of bachelor's degree as well as a master's
degree in Language Sciences with a specialized track in natural language
processing and computational linguistics, including formal linguistics,
mathematics and computer science courses.

The Master's degree is either oriented towards research or towards the
professional world. Students can pursue a doctorate at the ED 132 de Sciences
du langage (Paris Diderot) or at the ED 386 de Sciences Mathématiques de Paris
Centre (UPMC & Paris-Diderot).

The research will be carried out within the LLF (UMR 7110 CNRS and Paris
Diderot), in the field of computational linguistics, at the crossroads of
linguistics, computer science and mathematics.

The candidate must formulate a research project in the field of computational
linguistics (speech or written language processing, on fundamental NLP tasks
or applications). The prospects for integration into the LLF will have to be
developed. The research may also be carried out in the areas of the LabEx
Empirical Foundations of Linguistics (EFL, http://www.labex-efl.com) and in
particular in strand 5 "computational semantics".

The teaching covers the Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees. The
recruited teacher will be able to teach computational linguistics and machine
learning methods in the CL curriculum but must also demonstrate a solid
general knowledge of both the underlying mathematical and computational
foundations and the theoretical foundations in linguistics. The teacher must
have a good knowledge of the current application tasks in NLP and be able to
supervise student projects. The ability to intervene in the core curriculum of
the Master's degree in Language Sciences (methodology courses, such as the
corpus processing, experimental methods or more fundamental courses) is a plus
that will be appreciated.

Application process:
- Qualification. All candidates (French and international) are required to
have received the “qualification” by the French national committee (CNU –
Conseil National des Universités) before they can apply for a position. For
the qualification stage, candidates are invited to register online and submit
their application before October 24th, 2018, 4 P.M. (Paris time) on the
Galaxie website of the French "Ministère de l'Enseignement Supérieur".
The application procedure and all instructions are listed on the Galaxie
website at application link provided below.

- Job application. The website for the second stage of the process will be
open in February 2018 (tentative date). The position will start on September
1st 2019.
