Description:

The Department of Linguistics at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, invites
applications for the full­time position of Tenure­ track Assistant Professor
in Linguistics: Second Language Acquisition, beginning August 2019. We are a
dynamic Linguistics Department specializing in Applied Linguistics at both the
undergraduate and graduate levels with a solid theoretical foundation. The
department prepares students for professional jobs and advanced study in the
field but specializes in training instructors in TESOL at both the
undergraduate and graduate levels.

We seek candidates specializing in Second Language Acquisition, especially
with regard to the socio­cultural aspects of language acquisition and the
application of second language research to teacher education. 

Candidates who demonstrate evidence of innovative research, a strong potential
to contribute to the department’s teaching mission, and highly advanced
communication skills in spoken and written English are encouraged to apply.
Duties of the position include teaching 4 to 5 undergraduate and graduate
courses in the areas of Second Language Acquisition; conducting scholarly
research; advising and mentoring students; and performing service.

The ideal candidate will be able to show evidence of innovative research in
SLA and a strong record of publications in this area, evidence of seeking or
securing external funding, as well as, have the ability to successfully teach
advanced level linguistics classes (to both domestic and international
graduate and undergraduate students), including Research Methods in Applied
Linguistics and Forensic Linguistics for an interdisciplinary Forensics
Certificate. Consideration also given to candidates who have experience
conducting research with students, and experience teaching language and/or
pedagogy abroad.
