Are you a student or post-doc researcher in linguistics or a related
discipline who is interested in how recent developments in science and
technology relate to language science? Are you interested in how science
relates to public policy? The American Association for the Advancement of
Science (AAAS) Annual Meeting offers an exciting venue to hear talks by
leading scientists and policy experts on topics that span all areas of science
and technology, to network with other scientists and policy experts, and to be
a part of the public discussion of science hosted by the world’s largest
general scientific society. Section Z (Linguistics and Language Science) of
the AAAS is pleased to offer a small number of awards to cover the meeting
registration fees for qualified undergraduates, graduate students, and
postdocs. Presentation at the meeting is not a requirement for this award,
though we encourage you to consider submitting abstracts to the Student or
General E-poster sessions (deadline for poster abstract submission: October
18, 2018, information available
here: http://meetings.aaas.org/e-posters/). Travel and accommodation expenses
are not included in the award.

Who can apply:

Undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled in a degree program in
Linguistics or allied field, and postdocs in Linguistics or allied field.

How to apply:

Applications should include name, institutional affiliation, email contact,
and graduate, undergraduate or post-doc status, along with a brief statement
of research interest (max. 1 page); applicants who submit a poster abstract
should include the poster title in their application. Applications should be
sent via email to the Section Z Steering Group
at rice at chass.utoronto.ca. Verification of student or post-doc status must be
sent to the same address in a separate email from the applicant’s faculty
advisor or supervisor.

Application deadline and criteria: Complete applications are due by November
1, 2018. Several student and/or post-doc awards will be made to qualified
applicants, with priority given to applicants who have submitted posters.
