Meeting Description:

(Session of Theoretical Issues in Sign Language Research Conference 13)

5 Minute SIGNopsis

You’re not tired yet of explaining to anyone that sign languages are neither
universal nor pantomime? You want to share your enthusiasm for sign language
research with the world at large? You have exciting new research findings? You
are involved in a linguistic or socio-cultural project promoting sign
language? Then you should consider submitting an abstract to TISLR’s all-new
format Five Minute SIGNopsis.

The Five Minute SIGNopsis is a contest at TISLR 13 during which 10 selected
Deaf or hearing junior sign language linguists will present their research in
a concise, informative, and engaging way. Each presenter will prepare a
five-minute video in which they introduce a topic of their choosing in a
lively, accessible manner using any visual aids they deem helpful. The
presentations should be directed at a lay audience and should present an
interesting piece of data, exciting new ideas, new takes on existing theories
and/or linguistic-related engagements in Deaf communities.

The goal of Five Minute SIGNopsis is to help improve the visibility of sign
linguistic research. We encourage all SLLS junior members who plan to attend
the meeting to consider submitting an abstract for this event. The Five Minute
SIGNopsis is a contest at TISLR 13 with selected Deaf or hearing junior sign
language linguists. The winner will be selected by a panel of expert judges as
well as the audience.

Please keep in mind that the basic requirements for the video are the
inclusion of at least one of the conference sign languages (ASL, DGS or
International Sign) and English subtitles. Because the video presentation will
be interpreted into the other two conference sign languages, the deadline for
submission of the final version of the video to the interpreter coordinator is
August 20, 2019.

Call for Papers:

author(s). The abstract must not be longer than 500 words or a 3-minute video.

Deadline for submission: 31 December, 2018

Notification of acceptance: 1 March, 2019
