Subject: Discourse Analysis; Pragmatics; Semantics; Syntax; Typology: Post Doc, ZAS Leibniz-Zentrum Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft, Berlin, Germany
University or Organization: ZAS Leibniz-Zentrum Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft
Job Location: Berlin, Germany
Web Address: http://www.zas.gwz-berlin.de/index.html
Job Title: Researcher (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter)
Job Rank: Post Doc
Specialty Areas: Discourse Analysis; Pragmatics; Semantics; Syntax; Typology
Description:
The Leibniz-Zentrum Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft (ZAS) in Berlin invites
applications for a post-doctoral researcher, specializing in natural-language
syntax, the syntax/semantics interface, and the relation of syntax and
semantics to pragmatic phenomena. The position is part of the ERC project
“Speech Acts in Grammar and Discourse” (SPAGAD) directed by Manfred Krifka.
The project investigates speech acts as the minimal units of communication, in
particular their syntactic and prosodic realization, their interaction with
semantic operators within the sentence, their combination and function in
discourse, the acquisition of specific speech acts by children, and the
societal norms concerning the use of particular types of speech acts.
The position should ideally start January 1, 2019. It is a full-time position,
pay level TöDV E13, running for 36 months.
The syntactician in the team should have prior experience in working on
phenomena related to speech acts (such as questions, commands, exclamations),
should be informed about typological research on speech acts, and should have
worked on a non-European language (we do not look for specialists on Japanese
or Korean, as these languages are already covered). The successful applicant
is expected to collaborate in a team of researchers that focuses on other
speechact-related aspects. The candidate should have experience with empirical
techniques like linguistic field work, corpus linguistics, and/or experimental
work. A working knowledge of German is an advantage.
Please submit, with subject: “SPAGAD Syntax Application”, a letter of intent
that states in particular the nature of your interest in the project and your
expertise that you could contribute, as well as an CV, in one pdf file to the
application email provided below. Please also provide names and e-mail
addresses for up to two potential letters of reference.
Application Deadline: 01-Oct-2018 (Open until filled)
