Call Deadline: 15-Nov-2018

Meeting Description:

In 2019 the “Fontes Linguae Vasconum” scientific journal will celebrate its
50th anniversary (1969-2019). The journal has witnessed the advances in Basque
linguistics since the 1960s: many of the most important contributions to the
field were published there, such as materials to analyze a given local variety
of Basque or studies devoted to different aspects of the language. Thus, the
journal has been a tool of reference for scholars, both to publish results of
their work and to have access to latest developments in Basque Studies.

To celebrate the anniversary, an international conference will take place in
Pamplona (Spain) on 7-8th March 2019. The conference has two major objectives:
on the one hand, to disseminate latest advances in Basque linguistics and, on
the other hand, to present topics, methods and findings from other fields of
linguistics which might be relevant for research on the Basque language.

Plenary talks will be given by:

Lyle Campbell (University of Hawaii),
Lola Pons (University of Seville), and
Joaquín Gorrochategui (University of the Basque Country).

Languages of the conference will be Basque, French, Spanish, and English.

Call for Papers:

We invite papers related to one of the conference’s two major topics: (1)
latest advances in Basque linguistics and, (2) issues, methods and findings
from other fields of linguistics which might be relevant for research on the
Basque language.

Papers might be submitted for the following workshops:

Workshop 1: New paths in (Basque) Philology
Workshop 2: Studies of Basque Literature in the 21st century: diagnosis and
challenges
Workshop 3: Names and languages. Onomastics, a device for a better
understanding of our linguistic past
Workshop 4: Training teachers to teach oral Basque
Workshop 5: Questioning the dichotomy between native and non-native speakers
of Basque: types of speakers, language practices and ideologies around Basque
in the 21st century
Workshop 6: The itinerary of dialectology in relationship with neighbouring
disciplines
Workshop 7: The Basque language in typological perspective
Workshop 8: Theory of grammar for Basque (and vice versa)
Workshop 9: (About) Phonology: how and what for
Workshop 10: «The study of the history of Basque can be an example to the
