Description:

Eastern Connecticut State University, the state’s public liberal arts
university serving approximately 5300 students, offers a wide range of
undergraduate majors in the arts and sciences and professional studies, as
well as selected graduate programs. Located in historic Windham County in the
heart of eastern Connecticut, the University is midway between New York City
and Boston and only a short drive from Hartford, the state capital.

We invite applications from candidates who have a strong commitment to
teaching excellence, creative activity and scholarship, student advisement,
university and community service. ECSU is especially interested in faculty
with demonstrated innovation and excellence in teaching in a liberal arts
curriculum, and sensitivity to diverse populations and perspectives.

Position: Assistant Professor – Linguistics/English, Tenure Track

Position Description: 
We seek a linguist who can teach courses in the English major, including
state-mandated classes for future teachers such as History and Development of
the English Language, Modern American Grammar, and Linguistic Analysis.
Competitive candidates will demonstrate the ability to design and teach
courses with a sociolinguistic focus that support existing concentrations in
the English major, especially the Cultural Studies Concentration, Elementary
and Secondary Education Concentrations, and the Rhetoric and Composition
Concentration.  The best candidates will have a teaching and research agenda
that will expand department offerings in terms of academic and cultural
diversity, and have experience with relevant technology and software. 
Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) are especially encouraged to apply. 

Candidates must also have a demonstrated commitment to serving the needs of
first year students in either first year writing or a first year introductory
program.  Additional teaching responsibilities may include introductory and
intermediate courses serving the English major and the university’s Liberal
Arts Core. Teaching load is 12 credits (typically four courses) per semester.

Qualifications: 
PhD or ABD in Linguistics or English. The successful candidate will have an
awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural
population gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching or other
comparable experience.
