University. Ref. No. SU FV-3086-18. Closing date: 15 October, 2018.

The Department of Linguistics is one of the departments at the Faculty of
Humanities with about 70 employees and 400 students. The teaching focuses on
general linguistics, phonetics, computational linguistics, sign language and
Swedish as a second language for deaf. The main research areas are child
language development, linguistic typology and language documentation, analysis
and construction of different types of corpora (text, speech, video), sign
language and quantitative studies of communicative behaviour. We aim for
interaction and exchange between our teaching and research fields.

As a PhD student at the Faculty of Humanities you have the opportunity to

The Doctoral School also gives you the chance to improve the quality of your
education thanks to the interchange provided by the community of PhD students
from other subjects and departments.

Project description:
The position can have one of the following two profiles: Phonetics or
Linguistic Typology. Projects in phonetics are expected to have an
experimental approach related to research conducted in the phonetics lab of
the department. Projects in linguistic typology are expected to be of
relevance for the research field of linguistic diversity. We expect the
applicant to cooperate with the future research field Linguistic Diversity at
the Faculty of Humanities (see https://www.ling.su.se/english/research). A project plan
targeted to one of the above mentioned fields, which, in addition, relates to
one or more of the other research fields in the department, such as
computational linguistics, language documentation, sign language or child
language acquisition, or to the Stockholm University Brain Imaging Centre
(SUBIC) is a merit. Work experience related to research within the above
described profiles is a merit.
