Description:

The Department of Global Cultures and Languages at the University of
Wisconsin-La Crosse invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track
Assistant Professor position in German Studies and German/French Education.
This position includes responsibilities associated with World Language
Education, and may include teaching world language education methods courses,
leading field experience courses, and supervising teacher candidates in their
field placements, as well as supporting student teachers through supervision
and student teaching seminar. This position holds a start date of August 26,
2019. 

Required:
- Should have or be near to completing a doctorate degree in Second Language
Acquisition, German Language, German Cultural Studies, German Linguistics,
German Education, or a related field by August 26, 2019. Degree must be earned
by the first personnel review, no later than May 15, 2020.
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in U.S. PK-12 schools or equivalent.
- Demonstrated expertise specifically related to German and/or French
education, that in part or in whole informs and enhances the work they do with
prospective teachers.
- Maintain an active research agenda.
- Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in German and English.
- Candidates must also have a demonstrated proficiency in French.

Preferred:
- The successful candidate will be able to teach a wide variety of German
courses at all levels and will have experience with content-based foreign
language instruction.
- In addition, we seek a colleague who can expand our departmental offerings
by developing courses in one of the following areas: 1) German for
professional purposes (e.g., business, science and health, translation
studies, etc.); and/or 2) minority cultures, social justice, diversity,
advocacy, and community engagement in the German-speaking world; and/or 3)
online, hybrid, and distance-learning in the foreign language classroom; 4)
experience with or interest in service-learning education or internships
abroad are also desirable.
- Experience in teacher education at the college level related to world
languages.
- Experience as a cooperating teacher and/or with student teaching
supervision.
- Experience working in a professional learning community.
- Experience modeling inclusive practices.
- Experience with standards-based teacher preparation and performance-based
assessments (e.g. edTPA, InTASC standards).
- Teaching experience at multiple developmental levels.
