Description:

The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW) is a public
corporation based in Berlin. Its academic profile is characterized above all
by long-term basic research in the humanities and cultural sciences. The
Academy employs around 350 staff and has an annual budget of around 25 million
euros.

The BBAW is a learned society with a three-hundred-year-old tradition of
uniting outstanding scholars and scientists across national and disciplinary
boundaries. As the largest non-university research institute for the
humanities in the Berlin-Brandenburg region, it preserves and reveals the
region’s cultural inheritance, while also pursuing research and offering
advice on issues that are crucial for the future of society and providing a
forum for dialogue between scholarship and public. For the BMBF-funded project
"ZDL (Centre for Digital Lexicography of the German Language)" the BBAW
invites applications for the position:

Researcher/Computational Linguist 100% full-time position beginning at the
earliest opportunity  and initially ending 31st December, 2023
 
Responsibilities: 
- Research and development in the field of advanced procedures for syntactic
and semantic document analysis (named entity recognition, syntactic parsing,
relation recognition, and word sense disambiguation); 
- Evaluation, implementation, and maintenance of generic computational
linguistic services and associated language models - and resources based on
machine learning methods. 

Qualifications: 
- University degree in computer science, computational linguistics, cognitive
science, or a comparable subject; 
- Experience with machine learning methods (especially deep learning) and
distributional semantics; 
- Experience in the application of language technology tools for the
annotation of large corpora; 
- Very good knowledge of a high-level programming language (C ++, java, etc.)
and a scripting language (Perl or Python); 
- Sufficient knowledge of English or German for scientific exchange; 
- Very good communication and team skills; 
- Desired: knowledge of client / server models (web services, REST,
interprocess communication).
