The 7th British Council New Directions Language Assessment Conference East

This is the second Call for Papers for the upcoming New Directions in English
Language Assessment in East Asia conference. Our keynote speakers this year
are Professor Yoshinori Watanabe (Sophia University), Dr Talia Isaacs

Melbourne), and Professor Barry O’Sullivan (British Council).

This year’s New Directions conference invites proposals for papers on the
following main theme:

The critical role that language assessment plays in the creation, reform, and
implementation of policy. We invite papers that focus on issues surrounding
assessment policy, including how policy is created, how it is implemented, and
the effect it has on stakeholders. This theme includes how teachers orient
syllabuses towards tests, decisions based on test results, the motivations of
policy makers when introducing tests and the overall effect of test use on
language acquisition.

Proposals on the main theme or any of the following sub-themes are welcome.

Subthemes:

- Alignment of Policy with Context
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Assessment and Inclusion
- Implementing Performance Assessment
- Technology and Consequences

proposals on topics or innovative assessment research of general interest to
the wider field of language testing and assessment which are not directly
