Description:

The Department of Second Language Studies at Indiana University invites
applications for a Lecturer (non-tenure track) position to coordinate its
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program for matriculated students. This is
a 10-month appointment with an initial three-year contract at the rank of
Lecturer. Lecturers apply for promotion to senior lecturer (via portfolio
assessment) after 5 years. Position begins August 1, 2019. 

The position has a 3/3 base teaching load with a release of 2 courses per year
for coordination duties. These include the administration of the Indiana
Academic English Test (IAET) placement exam and coordinating with the Office
of the Vice-Provost for Undergraduate Education (OVPUE), the Registrar, the
Office of International Admissions, the First Year Experience Office, the
Department of English, and other relevant campus units. It also involves
leading and fostering curricular development in the program, tracking the
progress of students in the program, co-organizing the beginning-of-year
training workshops for new graduate student instructors, actively assisting
the mentoring and professional development of lecturers and graduate student
instructors in the program, and assisting the departmental office in
scheduling. Teaching duties may include EAP undergraduate and graduate courses
and the TESOL Practicum. 

Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in Second Language Studies, TESOL,
Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field. They will have a strong
command of the linguistic structure of English. Five years’ experience
teaching in a university setting, experience teaching ESL oracy skills, and
overseas experience are strongly desirable.
