Meeting Description:

The MULTIMAT Research Group at the Institute for Multilingualism (UIC
Barcelona) is proud to announce its Fifth Annual Spring Research Seminar
”Research Update on Teaching and Learning in Multilingual Contexts”, which
will take place on 31 May 2019, the purpose of which is to gather specialists
on bi/multilingualism research from different methodological perspectives.

Invited Speakers:

Dr Joan Carles Mora (Universitat de Barcelona)
“Phonetic training in and beyond the lab: L2 pronunciation learning through
multimodal input-based tasks”

Dr Elisabet Pladevall (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona)
“A form-focused approach to CLIL and its effects on young learners' EFL oral
production”

The Institute for Multilingualism has established itself as a centre of
reference for multilingual education at UIC Barcelona and for the integration
of applied linguistics with multilingual education. Current research and
development focus on Integrated Content and Language Learning in Higher
Education (ICL-HE), English Mediated Instruction (EMI), the acquisition of
pragmatics in multilingual children and the effects of bilingualism in the
development of a third language and vice versa. The Institute is also actively
involved in the linguistic preparation of the entire university community and
of society in general.
 
The Fifth Annual Spring Research Seminar will take place on Friday 31 May
2019, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Auditorium in the Faculty of Education on
UIC Barcelona’s Barcelona Campus (Terré, 11-19). The event is open to anyone
interested in attending. Registration is required, and places are limited. To
attend, please complete the following form: Registration.

Call for Papers:

We invite researchers to submit proposals for 15-min. individual or joint
presentations (+ 5 min. discussion) related to the study of bi/multilingualism
and teaching and learning in multilingual contexts within the field of Applied
Linguistics.
 
We encourage submissions on the subfields of:

- L1/L2/L3 Language acquisition and language learning
- Language teaching and curriculum design
- Language for specific purposes
- Content and language integrated teaching and learning
- Teacher education
- Language psychology, child language and psycholinguistics
- The acquisition of pragmatics

If you are interested in participating, we ask that you send an abstract of no
more than 500 words to multiling at uic.cat by 5 May 2019. 
Notification of acceptance will be sent by 15 May 2019.
