Description:

The Semantic Computing Group [1] at Bielefeld University [2] has an open
position as „associate researcher“ (PhD or postdoc level) in the area of deep
semantic natural language processing (NLP). The group follows an inter- and
multidisciplinary approach to representing, capturing and acquiring meaning
and knowledge with a focus on NLP and ML methods.

The candidate is expected to contribute to several of the following research
lines of the group:
- Development of semantic parsing methods for the prediction of semantic
representations for natural language sentences
- Exploitation of background knowledge in knowledge graphs or other knowledge
resources for NLP, in particular information extraction
- Development of learning methods in the areas of Machine Reading and Question
Answering
- Development of approaches for unsupervised or semi-supervised knowledge
acquisition for NLP
- Development of methods for grounded NLP (e. g. Visual Question Answering)

Your Profile:
We expect:
- University degree (Master or Diploma) in a relevant field
- Advanced knowledge of machine learning methods, in particular but not
limited to deep learning or advanced knowledge of natural language processing
methods
- Expertise with problems in the area of natural language processing: question
answering, machine reading, information extraction
- Knowledge in the area of semantics, in particular compositional and/or
formal semantics
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills
- Communicative, organized and efficient style of working
- Good English skills (oral and written)

The following qualifications are a plus:
- PhD in a relevant field (computer science, computational linguistics etc.)
- Advanced knowledge in the area of compositional semantics (DRT,
Lambda-Calculus) as well as syntax-semantics interface

Remuneration:
Salary will be paid according to Remuneration level 13 of the Wage Agreement
for Public Service in the Federal States (TV-L). As stipulated in § 2 (1) of
the WissZeitVG (fixed-term employment), the contract will end after two years.
In accordance with the provisions of the WissZeitVG and the Agreement on
Satisfactory Conditions of Employment, the length of contract may differ in
individual cases. The employment is designed to encourage further academic
qualification. In principle, these full-time position may be changed into a
part-time position, as long as this does not conflict with official needs. The
salary roughly amounts to 3.500 - 4.000 EUR per month depending on social
status, experience etc.
