Meeting Description:

On 14–15 November 2019, the 4th Saami Linguistics Symposium will take place in
Uppsala, Sweden. The Symposium is the continuation of a series of
international symposia previously held in Tromsø in 2006 and 2009, and in
Freiburg in 2017. The purpose of the symposium is to give researchers the
opportunity to present current research, participate in formal and informal
discussions on relevant topics, and explore potential opportunities for
collaborative work. We especially encourage younger researchers at the
Master’s and PhD levels to present their work.

Papers related to all aspects of Saami languages and linguistics are welcome.
The keynote speech will be given by Johanna Nichols (Berkeley) and address the
topic of the typological westernization of Saamic. With this in mind, we are
particularly looking forward to papers drawing on typological research. As it
has been 400 years since the publication of the first book in Saami we also
look forward to papers on the history of the written languages.

2nd Call for Papers:

Please submit an anonymous, one-page abstract - in PDF format only - in
English or a Saami language via EasyChair (https://easychair.org/cfp/SAALS-4)
by 31 August 2019.

(Please note that due to a typo the 1st CfP announced 31 July as the deadline
in some of our distribution channels.)
