With this special issue, we attempt to provide a well-rounded picture of both
language production and perception research on the English-official Caribbean,
including investigations of the status, functions, and features of the
varieties in question. The proposed issue will be the first of its kind to
combine variety descriptions and articles on attitude research from a high
number of smaller and larger territories from the Caribbean, and shed light on
the above-mentioned research gaps. By bringing together research from these
contexts, the proposed issue will, in particular, contribute to the question
of regional norm developmental and standardization processes within the
cultural and linguistic area of the English-official Caribbean. By combining
different methodological approaches the issue further allows some room for
discussion of methodological aspects in investigating language in
multivarietal, Creole communities. The editors of World Englishes, Kingsley
Bolton and Daniel Davis, have already indicated their interest in the special
issue and are awaiting a full list of contributions.

We invite authors to submit proposals for papers connected to various aspects
of research on the production and perception of varieties of the cultural and
linguistic area of the English-official Caribbean, including their status,
functions, and features as well as language attitudes surrounding them.
Abstracts will be first reviewed by the editors of the special issue, Philipp
Meer and Mirjam Schmalz, and initial decisions along with editorial comments
will be sent according to our envisaged timeline below. The authors of
selected proposals will then be invited to submit full papers, which will
afterwards be subjected to peer review. We plan to accept 10-12 full papers
for publication in this special issue, depending on the reviews.
Paper proposals in WORD file format should be sent to
philipp.meer at uni-muenster.de or mirjam.schmalz at es.uzh.ch and not exceed 500
words (excluding references, figures, and/or other additional information). If
you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Timeline:
Abstract deadline: November 30, 2019
Initial decision sent to contributors: December 15, 2019
Revised abstracts deadline: January 10, 2020
Full papers deadline: October 31, 2020
