Call for Chapter Proposals:

Christine E. Poteau, Carter A. Winkle, and Babak Khoshnevisan of the Social
Responsibility Interest Section (SRIS) of TESOL invite unpublished and
original empirical, theoretical, or pedagogically-focused chapter proposal
submissions for an edited volume organized around the four Areas of Advocacy
(AOAs): EL Advocacy; Intersections of Identity in Language Teaching;
Professional Learning; and Global Issues in English Language Teaching.

1. EL Advocacy—
Example topics:
- Political concerns and immigrant rights
- Qualitative and/or quantitative reporting of the effects of innovative EL
advocacy courses and programs in academic and/or community contexts
- Service-learning
- Online/Open classrooms
- MOOCs
- Qualitative and/or quantitative reporting of educator and/or learner
perceptions in diverse academic contexts or non-profit community organizations

2. Intersections of Identity and Language Teaching—
Example topics:
- ‘(Non)native-speakerism’ and educator and/or learnerperceptions
- Non-native English-speaking teachers (NNESTs)
- Developmental stages of teachers
- Educator and/or EL intersections vis-à-vis race, religion, nationality,
ethnicity, disability, gender, sexuality, etc.
- Educator and/or EL identity formation and representation in EL pedagogical
and learning dynamics

3. Professional Learning—
Example topics:
- Initial and Ongoing teacher preparation and professional development
- Social justice resources development
- Role of emerging technologies (e.g., augmented reality (AR), virtual reality
(VR)) in teacher education

4. Global Issues in ELT—
Example topics:
- Peace and environment education
- Language loss
- Economic justice
- Teacher education and innovative program development that align curriculum
with the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals (link:

Edited Volume Primary Goals:

The primary goal of this volume aligns with the stated purpose of the Social
Responsibility Interest Section of TESOL: Through this volume, we hope to
support the development of English language teachers, teacher-educators, and
language program administrators who wish to engage in the integration of
language teaching, research, and training with social responsibility, world
citizenship, and awareness of global issues such as peace, human rights, and
the environment.

Chapter proposal submission guidelines:

1) Identify selected AOA:EL Advocacy, Intersections of Identity and Language
Teaching, ProfessionalLearning, or Global Issues in ELT
2) Include: 
- Proposed Chapter Title
- Chapter Proposal: 500-650 words (excluding References)
- Author Name(s), Title(s), and Affiliation(s) — Please note: Authors of
accepted chapter submissions will be solicited for short biographies (100-150
words per contributor)
- Author Contact Information
- References (used to prepare Chapter Proposal)
3) Formatting:
- Style format: APA
- Font & Size: Times New Roman 12
- Spacing: Single

- Chapter Guidelines for Authors of Accepted Chapter Proposal Submissions:

1) Format: APA
2) Chapter Abstract: 250-300 words
3) Chapter Keywords: 5-7 words
4) Author Biography (100-150 words per author)
5) Chapter Length: 3000-5000 words (including short biographies, keywords,
references, and figures/charts/tables)
6) References

- General Suggested Chapter Outline:

Research- or Theoretically-Oriented Chapter
1) Abstract
2) Introduction (Context, Problem, Purpose)
3) Literature Review
4) Method — Theoretical or Empirical Research Study Design/Implementation
5) Results & Discussion
6) Study Limitations & Future Directions

Pedagogy-Oriented Chapter
1) Abstract
2) Introduction
3) Context

Important Dates and Submission Information:

- Chapter Proposal Due: December 1, 2019
- Chapter Proposal Notification: January 31, 2020
- Chapter Submission Due: May 1, 2020
- Chapter Submission Notification: July 1, 2020
- Final Chapter Submission Due: August 30, 2020
