Amazon is seeking a Spanish Data Linguist to join our machine learning data
team. This role focuses on speech and language data, primarily in the areas of
grammar writing, text annotation, and general language expansion deliverables.

The Spanish Data Linguist must be capable of:
- Building a thorough understanding of labeling conventions and provide
support to global sites
- Localizing established guidelines from English into Spanish
- Developing Spanish grammars and other forms of language applications
- Improving deployed grammars by expanding coverage, accuracy, and eliminating
bugs
- Delivering high quality data output under aggressive deadlines
- Working autonomously with minimum direction
- Handling unique data analysis requests from a range of data customers
- Contributing to process improvements to reduce handling time and improve
data output
- Diving deep into issues and implement solutions independently
- Providing quality expertise to other team members and coaching improvements

In addition, the Spanish Data Linguist will need to quickly understand changes
in response to customers’ requests and change workflows accordingly. The
Spanish Data Linguist must have a passion for data, efficiency, and accuracy
as well as:
- Show proactive efforts in addressing issues and problems
- Excellent communication, strong organizational skills and very
detailed-oriented
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work
environment
- Willingness to support several projects at one time, and to accept
re-prioritization as necessary
- Ability to keep up with changing project conventions and priorities

Basic Qualifications:
- BA or BS degree
- Native level fluency in Spanish
- Business level fluency in English
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office/Excel, JIRA, and Oracle

Preferred Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in Linguistics/Computational Linguistics, or equivalent
practical experience in data mark-up
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Experience working with grammars and other forms of language application
- Independent, proactive, and self-motivated with record in timely delivery of
requests
- Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and learn in-house
user-interface tools
- Team player with exceptional interpersonal and solution-oriented attitude
- Experience with command line tools
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
