Description:

Summary: Reporting to the Chair of the Department, the Director of Language
Programs, will work closely with the faculty- lead Committee on Undergraduate
Studies to support the language component of the majors and minors, direct the
Spanish and Portuguese L2 and heritage language programs, train and mentor
graduate teaching assistants; administer and score placement and exemptions
exams, build collaborations with campus professional schools s wanting Spanish
language components and expand language curricular offerings through on-line
programming. Teaching in the upper division undergraduate level is optional.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Spanish-Second Language
Acquisition/ Applied Linguistics/Foreign Language Education or related field
at the time of hire. The individual must have experience coordinating or
directing a large language program and supervising graduate teaching
assistants, native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English and
proficiency in Portuguese is desirable. Additionally, the candidate should
have expertise in curriculum development and assessment with demonstrated
administrative skills working with language instructors at various levels. The
candidate should also have demonstrated success meeting the needs of diverse
student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities

Other desirable experience:
- At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in developing face-to-face
and/or online courses or programs,
- Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership and TA supervision in Spanish
Language Programs at the post-secondary level,
- Research focus or interest in Applied Linguistics, teaching methodologies,
or related area,
- Demonstrated effectiveness in college-level teaching, including Spanish
hybrid and/or online courses,
- Knowledge of the ACTFL proficiency scale for foreign languages and its
application in language program.
