Meeting Description:

This conference provides a forum for researchers who seek to analyze,
challenge, and (re)think the concept and the practice of propaganda in the
light of contemporary forms of discourse and communication across the
ideological spectrum.
     
We invite authors to examine the relationship between concepts such as
propaganda, ideology, hegemony and discourse in today’s digital environment.
Both empirical and theoretical contributions are welcome.


2nd Call for Papers:

This is a message to remind you that you can still send in your abstracts for
the 24th DiscourseNet conference until December 16, 2019. The theme of this
conference is Discourse and Communication as Propaganda: digital and
multimodal forms of activism, persuasion and disinformation across ideologies

We would also like to take this opportunity to announce our keynote speakers

Prof. Ico Maly (University of Tilburg) will take about Algorithmic populism
and activism 
Prof. Emma L. Briant (Bard College) will present a lecture on Cambridge
Analytica: inside Cambridge Analytica and the Digital Influence Industry
Prof. Etienne Augé (Erasmus University Rotterdam) will present a talk titled
True enough: propaganda and reality in a streaming era

This conference is hosted by Engage – Research Center for Publicness in
Contemporary Communication (previously PReCoM), at the Université Saint-Louis
– Bruxelles. The conference is organised in partnership with ReSIC (Centre de
Recherche en Information et Communication / Université Libre de Bruxelles) and
DESIRE (Centre for the study of Democracy, Signification and Resistance /
Vrije Universiteit Brussel) with the support of the FNRS.
