Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral position in Prosody and
Reference in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Alberta. The
postdoctoral fellow will work in the Prosody Lab and the Centre for
Comparative Psycholinguistics with Drs. Anja Arnhold and Juhani Järvikivi on
projects relating to the prosodic marking of focus in Canadian English and the
role of prosody in referential processing. Primary duties include active
engagement in research and the research community, conceptualizing, designing,
and conducting research projects, preparing findings for publication, and
working with graduate and undergraduate students in the two labs. Candidates
need not be Canadian Citizens to apply. The salary for the position will be
$40,000 CAD a year, $3000 a year for research related costs, and supplemental
health benefits, in keeping with university postdoctoral fellowship

position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year.

The Prosody Lab is a recently-established and fully-equipped space for
conducting experimental studies on the production and perception of spoken
language. The lab houses a large sound-attenuated booth that contains a
station for classical one-participant set-ups, as well allowing to record
conversations of several speakers seated comfortably around a table. Lab
members also have access to research facilities of other labs at the
department or the Faculty of Arts, including further recording booths and
classroom-sized computer labs for perception studies.

The Centre for Comparative Psycholinguistics is a major venue of experimental
research in language processing in North America and a lively research
environment that attracts undergraduate and graduate students and senior staff
across faculties and disciplines. The CCP research facilities include a line
of SR Research Eyelink eye trackers (including 2 brand new Portable Duo
trackers), mobile eye tracking glasses, and a Biosemi EEG. In addition to the
local facilities and contacts, the Postdoctoral fellow will benefit from and
participate in the Annual Spring Training in Experimental Psycholinguistics
(http://ccp.artsrn.ualberta.ca/portfolio/step/) as well as training and
training events organized within the SSHRC Partnered Training Initiative Words
in the World (http://wordsintheworld.ca/).

Qualifications:
- Completed PhD (within past 5 years and before the start date) in
Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in prosody research within the
autosegmental-metrical framework, experimental design, and relevant
statistical methods.
- Experience and skills with ToBI-annotation, R statistical language, and
advanced statistics (e.g., LMMs, GAMMs, other regression techniques) are
desirable.
- Experience with any of the following: annotation of information structure,
eye-tracking, EEG/ERPs, language processing, and/or individual differences
would be a plus.

To Apply:
Applications should include:
- A Cover letter,
- CV,
- A brief (max. 2 pages) statement of interest,
