Subject: Introducing Registered Reports at BIOLINGUISTICS

As the first platinum open access linguistics journal BIOLINGUISTICS is
introducing Registered Reports as a new article type alongside regular
articles, briefs, reviews, and forum contributions.

The principled idea of Registered Reports can be summarized as follows:
Perform peer-review before results are known in order to align scientific
values and practices.

Registered Reports are reviewed in a two-stage process: A study is
pre-registered and undergoes peer-review before any data is being collected.
After a positive first evaluation, the submission is accepted in principle and
researchers conduct the study. The results will be published, regardless of
perceived importance, novelty, or conclusiveness of results.

This format is designed to minimize bias in deductive science, while also
allowing complete flexibility to conduct exploratory analyses and report
serendipitous findings.

BIOLINGUISTICS welcomes submissions from all sub-fields studying the
biological basis of the human language faculty.
